• The Illinois State Board of Education indicates that our District earned the “fully recognized” status in the area of finances.

• Four of the District's eight schools are National Blue Ribbon Award winners, the highest honor a school can earn.

* Henking School was selected as a National Blue Ribbon School in 2003-04.

* Lyon School was selected as a National Blue Ribbon School in 2003-04.

* Westbrook School was selected as a National Blue Ribbon School in 1988-89 and again in 1997-98.

* Springman Middle School was selected as a National Blue Ribbon School 1987-88 and again in 2008-09.

• Seven of our certified staff have earned the prestigious National Board Certification - Karin Amaden, Sue Dobias, Jackie Kemper, Katrina Klever, Pat Neudecker, Katie Pyle and Allison Cohen Reatherford.

• Three are several of our staff members that have earned their doctorate degress including: Beth Birsa, Melissa Brown, Madeline Collins, Jill Engel, Avi Greene, Gerald Hill, Lori Hinton, Brenda Kraber, Ilene Holt-Turner, Heather Hopkins, David Jones, Jean Mahony, Jason Rehfeldt and Mathew Rich.

• In 2008, the Olympian Team at Springman Middle School earned the Illinois State Board of Education Award of Excellence in the "Those Who Excel" program. The teachers on the team that earned the award included: Jan Christensen, Jenny Kreiseder, Stacey Grossman, Anthony Kudia and Crosbie Lind.

• Attea Middle School, Hoffman Elementary and Springman Middle School are among 17 schools in the state to earn the Physical Education Blue Ribbon Program award from the Illinois Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance (IAHPERD) since 2005.

• In 2006, the Explorer Team at Springman Middle School earned the national "Teams that Make a Difference" Award from the National Middle School Association. The teachers on the team that earned the award included: Bonnie Buehler, Ronda Franks, Vicky Frigelis, Sarah Myland, Tony Schwinghamer and Susan Zolin.

• The District has earned The Independent SchoolSearch Red Apple Award of Excellence each year since 1994.

• There have been four teachers from District 34 to earn the Golden Apple Award: David Jones (Pleasant Ridge) in 2002; Chuck Sentell (Henking) in 1990; Scott Buzard (Springman) in 1989; and Jane Artabasy (Springman) in 1988. The award is a prestigious regional award honoring the top teachers in the metropolitan area.

• Tina Patitucci was of five Chicago area teachers to earn the 2002 Kohl/McCormick Early Childhood Teaching Award.
