• The Illinois State Board of Education indicates that our District earned the “fully recognized” status in the area of finances.

• Four of the District's eight schools are National Blue Ribbon Award winners, the highest honor a school can earn.

* Henking School was selected as a National Blue Ribbon School in 2003-04.

* Lyon School was selected as a National Blue Ribbon School in 2003-04.

* Westbrook School was selected as a National Blue Ribbon School in 1988-89 and again in 1997-98.

* Springman Middle School was selected as a National Blue Ribbon School 1987-88 and again in 2008-09.

• Several of our cstaff have earned the prestigious National Board Certification - Mary Alonzi, Karin Amaden, Linda Diekman, Sue Dobias, Jackie Kemper, Katrina Klever, Jenny Kreiseder, Pat Neudecker, Katie Pyle and Allison Cohen Reatherford.

• The District has earned The Independent SchoolSearch Red Apple Award of Excellence each year since 1994.

• There have been four teachers from District 34 to earn the Chicago-area Golden Apple Award: David Jones (Pleasant Ridge) in 2002; Chuck Sentell (Henking) in 1990; Scott Buzard (Springman) in 1989; and Jane Artabasy (Springman) in 1988. The award is a prestigious regional award honoring the top teachers in the metropolitan area.

• Tina Patitucci was one of five Chicago area teachers to earn the 2002 Kohl/McCormick Early Childhood Teaching Award.
