Business Meetings
Operating procedures prevail at each School Board business meeting. The Board of Education utilizes a consent agenda as part of
these meetings, allowing the Board to approve more than one item as a slate, rather than each item separately. These items are
typically routine in nature.
Following consent items, the Board moves on to the consideration of any other resolutions that have typically been discussed previously.
The discussion session of the meeting follows the consideration of other resolutions. As a discussion item, the Board reviews materials
presented by the administration, considers input from the community, receives answers to its questions, and seeks clarification as needed,
in order to best understand the issue at hand.
Audience Participation
Audience participation is encouraged to provide input during the meetings when a topic is being discussed. Anyone who wishes to address
the Board should complete a board comment card, turn that card in, and the Board president will introduce the speaker. The Board does not
engage in discussions with the public, but instead will respond in an appropriate manner. Input of ideas from the public to the School
Board is encouraged at two specific points during a business meeting. This structure is designed to facilitate efficient meetings while
assuring the public two opportunities to address the Board.
Discussion Meetings
The Board also holds discussion meetings on pertinent topics, and time for audience input is set aside at the end of each meeting. No
action is taken at these open discussions. Items presented and discussed at these meetings may be voted upon at the next general business
meeting.
