Meeting Information
The District 34 Board of Education meetings will be held in person at Attea Middle School (2500 Chestnut) and will be streamed live.
The meetings will begin promptly at 7:30pm.
The Board of Education typically meets at least once each month (except for July). Meeting agendas may be viewed on our website the Friday prior to a Monday meeting (unless noted otherwise). Additionally, previous meeting agendas and minutes can also be viewed on our website.
Community Participation
The Board welcomes and encourages community participation during Board meetings; there are two public comment opportunities sections on each agenda.
Please note, community participation is open only to those who attend the meetings in person.
To ensure all voices are heard and that meetings follows Board policy (Policy 2:230), the Board follows these procedures for public comment:
-
Members of the community who wish to address the Board during community participation should complete a comment card and give it to Executive Director of Communications & Strategic Planning Rebecca Latham.
-
The Board President will call community members forward. Speakers will be asked to introduce themselves and describe their relationship with the District (e.g., “Parent of children who attend Westbrook and Glen Grove,” or “Community member with no children in District 34 schools.”). When available, speakers will use the microphone so all Board and audience members (in person and streaming) can hear comments.
-
The Board may limit each individual’s comment period to three minutes in order to allow everyone an opportunity to be heard.
-
Community members can comment once during each community participation period.
-
The Board is in “listening mode” during this time. Board members may offer quick answers when possible. In most cases, the Board will note the questions and comments, and the Board or administration will follow up with answers either via email or by posting information online, if appropriate.
A brief summary of comments and names of those who speak will be included in Board Briefs, the meeting summary newsletter sent to the community.

Development & Training Completed by Board Members
All Illinois Board of Education members must receive training in professional development leadership (P.A. 97-8) and the Open Meetings Act (P.A. 97-504). For additional information, see Board policy 2:120, Board Member Development.
The following table contains mandatory and non-mandatory training and development activities that were completed by each Board member. When the training was provided by the Illinois Association of School Boards, the acronym "IASB" follows the listed activity.
