Bilingual Language Services

Program Goals
Who we serve:
This program is designed for groups of students (20 or more in one school) who share the same home language and qualify for additional English Language (EL) services.
What we aim to achieve:
- Equal Access: We ensure students can fully participate in their education by using both their home language and English.
- Bilingual Success: We want students to become "biliterate"—able to read, write, and speak fluently in both languages.
- English Proficiency: We help students master English using the WIDA Language Proficiency Standards.
- Core Learning:
- If Spanish is the home language, we teach English and Spanish Language Arts and support core subjects (Math, Science, and Social Studies) in both languages.
- If the home language is something other than Spanish, we support core subjects (Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies) and utilize the home language to make content more comprehensible.
- Cultural Connection: We teach the history and culture related to the language to help students connect with their heritage.
How This Helps Your Child
Benefits of the program:
- Tailored Support: It directly addresses your child's specific language and academic needs.
- Research-Based: We use teaching methods proven to work best for bilingual learners.
- Standards-Aligned: Instruction in both languages follows the Common Core State Standards.
- Confidence & Pride: We encourage a positive identity and cultural pride, helping students feel confident in who they are.
- The "Bridge" Approach: By strengthening academic skills in Spanish first (or simultaneously), we create a strong foundation that makes learning complex academic English easier and more effective.
