Learning Structure

Go Math! is designed using the 5E instructional model (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, Evaluate), guiding students toward proficiency by building on their previous understanding of mathematical concepts.  Math class time may include small group rotations, with each group working on their own specific needs.  Students may experience reteaching, enrichment, additional practice, prerequisite skills reinforcement, extensions, and games during this time.

Go Math! has embedded rigor and challenge in every lesson.  In addition, there are additional enrichment activities provided for every lesson.  Likewise, Go Math! provides resources for reteaching within each lesson to meet the needs of all levels of learners.

The student journal provides an abundance of practice problems that will likely not all get completed during math class.  This is part of the design, and not all of the journal pages or problems are expected to be completed.  Exercises take the form of different levels and contexts, leading students toward automaticity.  Teachers select the practice problems for each student based on individual student needs.  Students may choose to complete the remaining journal problems at home from additional practice.

Math Discourse and Language Support

Embedded Math Talk and collaborative activities encourage math discourse. Students of all languages can safely participate in the math community.  Math Talk, Launch Lessons, Math Centers, and games offer opportunities for investigation and discussion.

Go Math! includes extensive, WIDA-aligned supports for multilingual learners for every lesson, and additional proficiency-level support for small-groups.

Math Pathways

Kindergarten - 3rd Grade:

In Kindergarten through 3rd grade, students may join with like-minded peers within their classroom for small-group activities based on their level of readiness for challenge and increased rigor.

4th and 5th Grade:

In 4th and 5th grade, students will be identified for Grade Level or Advanced math pathway.  The content learned in each pathway is the same, however the pacing of instruction and frequency of challenge material being offered is increased in the Advanced math class.  Both pathways can lead to the Accelerated pathway in 6th grade.

Personalized Learning Through Waggle

Waggle is a digital adaptive practice tool that can deliver personalized practice aligned to students' NWEA MAP or HMH Growth Measure scores or aligned to students' grade level.  NWEA MAP Growth and HMH Growth Measure’s benchmark assessments automatically place students into personalized, adaptive practice based on domain and grade-level readiness, and further provide teachers with timely insights into proficiency as students practice and refine their math skills.

Learning isn’t one size fits all, and neither is Waggle. Students encounter a wide variety of item types—ideal practice for online high-stakes testing. Waggle may be used during math centers, before and after school sessions, or at home for an engaging, gamified form of practice.  Waggle® also can provide practice for daily lessons in addition to generating activities that address individual skill gaps.

Students will need their headphones when engaging in Waggle activities.  To replace district issued headphones, login to your e-funds account → click Optional Fees → select Replacement Headphones $10 → Pay via credit card or electronic check.
