Character Counts Food Drive
October 17 - 21, 2022
For over a decade, Character Counts! in Glenview has partnered with local parents and volunteers to organize a community-wide food drive to support the Northfield Township Food Pantry (2550 Waukegan Rd Suite 100, Glenview, IL 60025).
Beginning Monday, October 17 to Friday, October 21, the students of District 34, District 30 and Our Lady of Perpetual Help, are coming together in conjunction with Character Counts Week to collect food items for donations to the local pantry. Collection boxes will be located at each school. Families may also choose to deliver food or check/cash donations directly to the pantry. A running total can be found below.
This year, we added a School Bus Collection night on Tuesday, October 18. Parents, students and community members visited us along our route and helped us Stuff the Bus for the food pantry! We collected about 1,950 items for the Northfield Township Food Pantry at our Stuff the Bus event!
What Should We Give?
The Northfield Township Food Pantry has received tremendous community support meeting the needs of our residents. Unfortunately there are still significant challenges simply sourcing enough food in appropriate household sizes.
Some of the most important items that are difficult to stock in sufficient numbers are canned proteins such as tuna, chicken, salmon, beef stew, pasta with meat i.e. SpaghettiOs, and beans; soup; rice and pasta mixes and shelf-stable potatoes.
We invite teachers to use the data collection in any school projects that seem appropriate. If you take photos of collection activities, email them to District 34 Executive Director of Communications Cathy Kedjidjian.

Our intent is to get children thinking community-wide rather than as individual schools.

Who We Are?
This food drive is being organized by the Character Counts! in Glenview Committee and parent volunteers from Glenview District 34, Northbrook/Glenview District 30, Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
The purpose of our committee is to share ideas about how we can best support our children and their schools and, when appropriate, coordinate joint projects such as this one. This is the 13th year we have been running the Food Drive in conjunction with Character Counts! Week.
