Illness & Diagnosis Monitoring

Glenview School District 34’s Health Office guidelines on illness and diagnosis monitoring have been carefully considered to address and promote the safety, health, and welfare of our community. They are based on CDC Guidelines and are subject to change when those guidelines change.

STAY HOME WHEN SICK
It is vital to the health and wellbeing of everyone in our community for parents, guardians and caregivers to keep students home when they are ill, and for staff to stay home when sick.

WHAT IS "CLOSE CONTACT"?
A close contact is anyone who was within 6 feet of a confirmed case of COVID-19 (with or without a face covering), for at least 15 minutes cumulative throughout the course of 24 hours, starting from two days before illness onset or the date the person took the positive test.

Return-to-School/Work

The following chart outlines how and when students and staff can return after being diagnosed with COVID-19, after showing symptoms or after being in close contact with another person with or suspected of having COVID-19.

Schools are not expected to screen students or staff to identify cases of COVID-19.

Student Return-to-School Check-in Procedures

All students are required to have their temperature checked and symptoms evaluated prior to returning to class via self-certification. Students who have been absent due to sickness must report to the health office and provide a return-to-school note from a physician if required. The health office staff will take the student’s temperature. Teachers or office staff will notify the Health Office as soon as the student is present.

School Support

The District and each school will provide support to students who are home due to illness. They will continue to support students with acute or chronic health conditions. Short-term absences will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Long-term absences will be evaluated if criteria is appropriate for medical leave or other potential medical accommodations.

Our Commitment

As we work to reach our "new normal," District 34 is committed to:

  • Safety & Health: The safety and health of students, staff and families is the top priority.
  • Flexibility: We have developed plans that allow us to adapt to inevitable changes.
  • Equity: We will provide equitable access for all students and families.
  • Connections: D34 will keep open the lines of two-way communication, and communicate consistently, clearly and with compassion.
